This itinerary assumes you're arriving on Day 1 and departing on Day 4. If you have more time, check out our 10 Best Things to Do in El Nido for extra activities.

Quick Overview

  • Day 1: Arrival + town exploration + sunset at Las Cabañas
  • Day 2: Island Hopping Tour A (Big Lagoon + Small Lagoon)
  • Day 3: Island Hopping Tour C (Hidden Beaches + Caves)
  • Day 4: Nacpan Beach + departure

Total budget (per person): ₱12,000–₱18,000 including accommodation, tours, food, and local transport (excluding flights).

Day 1: Arrival, Town Exploration & Sunset

Most travelers arrive in El Nido either by flight to Lio Airport (small propeller planes from Manila or Cebu) or by van from Puerto Princesa (5–6 hours). Either way, expect to arrive around midday.

Afternoon: Settle In

  • Check in to your hotel or hostel — see our hotels page for options in every budget
  • Grab lunch at Artcafe or El Nido Boutique & Artcafe (local favorites in town)
  • Walk along the beachfront to get your bearings
  • Book your tours for Day 2 and Day 3 (or book online in advance during peak season)

Late Afternoon: Book Your Tours

You have two options for tours:

  • Group tours — ₱1,200–₱1,600 per person per tour (best value)
  • Private tours — ₱6,000–₱9,000 per boat (up to 8 people, best experience)

Pro tip: Book Tour A for Day 2 and Tour C for Day 3. These are the two best routes — you can skip Tours B and D if you're short on time.

Sunset: Las Cabañas Beach (Marimegmeg)

Hop on a tricycle (₱150–₱200) and head to Las Cabañas Beach — 10 minutes from town and the best sunset spot in El Nido.

Grab a drink at one of the beach bars, kick off your shoes, and watch the sun dip into the West Philippine Sea. It's the perfect way to start your trip.

Dinner: El Nido Night Market (opens around 5 PM) — try the grilled squid, kinilaw, and fresh seafood. Budget: ₱200–₱400 per person.

Day 2: Island Hopping Tour A — The Classic

Today is the day you see the El Nido that's on every postcard. Tour A takes you to the iconic Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon — two of the most photographed spots in the Philippines.

Tour Stops

  • Big Lagoon — a majestic emerald lagoon surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Best explored by kayak (₱300–₱500 rental)
  • Small Lagoon — swim through a small opening in the rocks to reach a hidden lagoon
  • Shimizu Island — perfect snorkeling spot with vibrant coral and tropical fish
  • Secret Lagoon — accessible only through a small hole in a limestone wall
  • Seven Commandos Beach — a beautiful white-sand beach, perfect for the final stop

Schedule

  • 8:30 AM — Meet at the tour operator's office
  • 9:00 AM — Boat departs from El Nido beachfront
  • 12:00 PM — Beach lunch (usually grilled fish, chicken, rice, and fruit — included in the tour)
  • 4:00 PM — Return to El Nido town

Cost: ₱1,200–₱1,500 per person (group tour, includes lunch, boat, guide, and environmental fees)

Evening

After a full day on the water, treat yourself to a massage (₱500–₱800 for 1 hour) and dinner at The Alternative or Bacuit Grill. Then get an early night — you'll want energy for tomorrow.

Day 3: Island Hopping Tour C — Hidden Beaches & Caves

If Tour A is the classic, Tour C is the adventure. This route takes you to remote beaches and hidden coves that most tourists never see.

Tour Stops

  • Hidden Beach — a secluded cove surrounded by limestone cliffs, accessible only by swimming through a small opening
  • Matinloc Shrine — a clifftop church with panoramic views of the Bacuit Bay
  • Secret Beach — swim through a small gap in the rocks to reach a hidden paradise
  • Star Beach — a quiet beach perfect for snorkeling and lunch
  • Helicopter Island — named for its helicopter-like silhouette from the air, with excellent snorkeling

Schedule

Same as Tour A — depart around 9 AM, return around 4 PM. Lunch is included.

Cost: ₱1,400–₱1,600 per person

Evening

After two full days of island hopping, take it easy tonight. Enjoy a sunset drink at Sava Beach Bar or Sunset at Las Cabañas, then have a relaxed dinner in town.

Tip: If you're not too tired, book a firefly watching tour in the mangroves (₱800–₱1,200 per person) — a magical experience most tourists miss.

Day 4: Nacpan Beach & Departure

Your last day — make it count. Head north to Nacpan Beach, often ranked as one of the best beaches in Asia.

Morning: Nacpan Beach

  • 6:30 AM — Depart El Nido town (rent a scooter for ₱500/day, or hire a tricycle for ₱1,500 round trip)
  • 7:30 AM — Arrive at Nacpan Beach
  • 8:00–11:00 AM — Swim, sunbathe, walk the 4-kilometer stretch of golden sand
  • 11:00 AM — Trek to Twin Beach (Calitang Beach) — a 15-minute walk over a small hill for a stunning panoramic view of both beaches

Lunch: Eat at one of the beachside restaurants at Nacpan (fresh seafood, Filipino dishes). Budget: ₱300–₱500 per person.

Afternoon: Head Back & Prepare for Departure

  • 2:00 PM — Return to El Nido town
  • 3:00 PM — Shower, pack, and check out of your hotel
  • 4:00 PM — Depending on your flight/van schedule, either head to Lio Airport or catch a van back to Puerto Princesa

Your accommodation choice depends on your budget and priorities:

  • Budget (₱500–₱1,500/night): Hostels and guesthouses in El Nido town — walkable to everything

Essential Tips for First-Timers

  • Bring cash. ATMs in El Nido often run out of money, especially on weekends. Bring at least ₱10,000 extra in cash.
  • Pack reef-safe sunscreen. Regular sunscreen damages coral reefs and is banned in some marine protected areas.
  • Book tours in advance during peak season (December to April).
  • Bring a dry bag for island hopping — water splashes are inevitable.
  • Bring aqua shoes for rocky beaches and sharp coral.
  • Book accommodation early if you're visiting during Christmas, New Year, or Holy Week.
  • Check the weather forecast. Tours may be canceled during typhoons (June to October).
  • Learn a few Filipino phrases. "Salamat" (thank you) and "Magandang umaga" (good morning) go a long way.

Alternatives If You Have More Time

Only have 4 days? This itinerary is packed, but manageable. If you have 5–6 days, consider adding:

  • Day trip to Puerto Princesa Underground River — a UNESCO World Heritage Site 5–6 hours south
  • Coron extension — 3-hour ferry from El Nido, with its own stunning lagoons and wrecks
  • Diving certification — El Nido is one of the best places in the Philippines to learn to dive
  • Port Barton — a quieter, more laid-back alternative to El Nido, 3 hours south
